Palacio Euskalduna

Inaugurated in 1999, the Euskalduna Conference Centre and Concert Hall is a very unique building; in fact one of the flagships of the new Bilbao of the 21st century.

The Conference Centre received the 2001 Enric Miralles award at the 6th Biennial of Spanish Architecture. Designed by architects Federico Soriano and Dolores Palacios as a vessel that stands in a dock on the site of the former Euskalduna Shipyard.

The conference center was also elected “Best Conference Center” in 2003, so you can be assured that it will meet your high standard of expectations.

Guggenheim Museum

Welcome Reception on 4th October

The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao is designed by North American architect Frank O. Gehry, and represents a magnificent example of the most groundbreaking architecture to have come out of the 20th century. The building itself is an innovatively designed architectural landmark that creates a seductive backdrop for the exhibition of contemporary art.

Permanent Collection

The permanent Guggenheim collections are comprised of the works belonging to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, the works acquired through the program of commissions at the Deutsche Guggenheim in Berlin, as well as the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao's own collection. Together, the collections offer a comprehensive overview of the visual arts of the 20th century and feature various masterpieces of Avant-garde art, 20th century abstraction, and non-objective art.

The highlight of the Guggehneim collection, and its only permanent exhibit, is The Matter of Time, a series of weathering steel sculptures designed by Richard Serra and housed in the 130m² Arcelor Gallery.

Anish Kapoor

The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao presents a monographic exhibition on Anish Kapoor, one of the most influential sculptors on the contemporary international scene. The show was tremendously successful at the Royal Academy of Arts in London and has been organized in close collaboration with the artist.

Born in Bombay (India) in 1954 and a graduate of London's Hornsey College of Art and the Chelsea School of Art, Kapoor made the leap to international fame in the early 1980s thanks to his explorations of the abstract sculptural form, his monumental installations and his public outdoor art projects. The Bilbao show features several spectacular series that Kapoor has created since 1979 using tactile or highly reflective materials: pure bright pigments, blood-red wax, painted fiberglass, stone, polished stainless steel and, more recently, cement. These pieces reveal Kapoor's interest in the relationship between the spectator and the objects in a given space.
